“I see that it is by no means useless to travel, if a man wants to see something new.”
-Jules Verne, Around the World in 80 Days
On Saturday May 6, 2017, award-winning photographer Sil Azevedo hosts the opening reception of his solo show, Around the World. The exhibit features captivating and thought-provoking images from his 12-week adventure-filled journey to far-reaching destinations—many from off the well-beaten tourism track.
Traveling by plane, train, automobile and other means to locations including Madrid, Provence, Korčula, Budapest, and Ladakh, in the Himalayas, among many others, he encountered compelling beauty and significance—often in the most unexpected of places. New perspectives of sights such as the majestic Gorges du Verdon, Sir Norman Foster’s Torre de Collserola, Prague’s Café Louvre (once frequented by Kafka and Einstein), and even Salvador Dali’s home all became some of the subjects for his work.
In Around the World, Sil simultaneously considers not only the visual photographic impact—translated as an oft surrealistic moment that juxtaposes light and darkness—but also the importance of telling the unique story behind the image. Each of the dramatically rendered black-and-white pieces features an intensity of emotion and intriguing candor, ultimately showcasing a new lens by which to view the world and the universality of the human experience.
The opening reception of Around the World is Saturday, May 6 from 5pm to 8pm, at 500 Exposition Avenue, #104, Dallas, 75226. RSVP to studio@silazevedo.com The exhibit is on display, by appointment only, through Dec. 31, 2017. To learn more, visit worldphoto.space
