Wat Pho is one of Bangkok's oldest temples. It existed before Bangkok became the capital of Thailand. The complex was first established in the XVI century and was expanded and renovated through the centuries. It is first on the list of six temples in Thailand classified as first-class royal temples. It houses the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand, including the famous 46 m long reclining Buddha. Wat Pho is considered the earliest center for public education in Thailand. The marble illustrations and inscriptions placed in the temple for public instructions has been recognized by UNESCO in its Memory of the World Programme. It houses a school of Thai medicine and is known as the birthplace of traditional Thai massage, which is still taught and practiced at the temple.

As we wandered through the grounds of this incredible place, my eyes could not turn away from the magnificent Stupas that reach as high as 42 meters. The pointy structures seemed to call out as spiritual antennas in silhouette against the dramatic late afternoon sky.
