Liberty 2
Liberty 2
Budapest is an incredibly beautiful city, filled with statues and monuments by its fantastic buildings and bridges. The statues from the communist era have a robust triumphant feel. The statue of Liberty was originally erected on Gellert Hill in gratitude for the Soviet liberation from the Nazis in WWII. As the terrors of the Communist regime grew, popular sentiment changed and the statue was rededicated "To the memory of those all who sacrificed their lives for the independence, freedom, and prosperity of Hungary". Circumstances change, but the ideal of liberty remains.
